Legalization of Documents

Legalization of documents is essential for the international recognition and use of official documents. Legalization confirms the authenticity of the document, which is crucial in matters such as emigration, studying abroad, or concluding international contracts.

Document legalization is the formal process of confirming the authenticity of a signature, seal or stamp on an official document so that it can be recognized in another country. Legalization is often required for documents issued in one country to be recognized as valid in another.

Types of Document Legalization

  1. Apostille

  • Apostille is a simplified form of legalization used in countries signatory to the 1961 Hague Convention. The Apostille confirms the authenticity of the document, eliminating the need for additional legalization at embassies or consulates.

  • Used for: civil status records, diplomas, certificates, court and administrative documents.

  1. Full Legalization

  • Full legalization is required in countries that are not signatories to the Hague Convention. The process is more complex and involves several stages, including legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy or consulate of the country where the document is to be used.

  • Used for: the same document types as the Apostille, but in non-Hague Convention countries.
